AI and IoT Take Center Stage in Indonesia-India Partnership
In a landmark move, Indonesia and India have strengthened their bilateral ties by signing a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost digital technology collaboration.

NEW DELHI — The agreement was formalized by Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, and India’s Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Jitin Prasada, during Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to India for its 76th Republic Day celebrations, January 24-26, 2025. The partnership underscores mutual commitment to advancing key digital technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and public digital infrastructure.
Meutya Hafid emphasized the transformative potential of the partnership, stating, “This partnership marks a pivotal moment in strengthening the digital ecosystems of both nations, from technology to human resources.”
The MoU covers several critical areas such as AI, IoT, B2B digital ecosystems, public digital infrastructure like digital identity, and IT skill development. Meutya highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration in fostering innovation. “We must build partnerships that not only benefit governments but also involve private sectors and the broader public,” she said.
A Joint Working Group (JWG) will be established to oversee the MoU’s implementation, conducting regular meetings to monitor progress and address challenges. Both nations aim to share knowledge and experiences to navigate the complexities of global digital transformation.
India’s Minister Jitin Prasada welcomed the agreement, noting that the partnership aligns with both countries’ digital transformation agendas, creating opportunities for sustainable growth and innovation.
The MoU symbolizes a shared vision for a digitally connected future, with both nations leveraging their strengths to address global challenges in technology. As Meutya Hafid remarked, “We are confident this partnership will significantly shape a better digital future for Indonesia and India.”
