JAKARTA— Based on analysis by the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center (TCWC) in Jakarta, the three systems were detected in areas surrounding Indonesia, the agency said.
Although the likelihood of the systems developing into full tropical cyclones is considered low, BMKG warned of indirect weather impacts across several regions.
“Tropical cyclone seed 98P was first observed forming on Jan. 29, 2026 at 13:00 WIB within the TCWC Jakarta monitoring area. The system is currently located over northern Australia. Tropical Cyclone Seed 98P has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone and is forecast to move westward within the next 24 hours,” BMKG said.
Despite moving away from Indonesia, the system’s indirect weather effects may bring moderate to heavy rain to parts of East Nusa Tenggara, Southwest Maluku and the Tanimbar Islands, along with strong winds in East Nusa Tenggara.
BMKG also warned of waves of 1.25 to 2.5 metres in the Sawu Sea and waters around the Leti, Sermata, Babar, Tanimbar, Kai and Aru islands, with higher waves of 2.5 to 4 metres possible in the Indian Ocean south of East Nusa Tenggara and in the Arafura Sea.
Meanwhile, tropical cyclone seed 92S, located in the Indian Ocean southwest of Lampung, is also forecast to move westward away from Indonesia but may still generate waves of 1.25 to 2.5 metres in waters west of Bengkulu to Lampung.
“Tropical cyclone seed 94W was first observed forming on Feb. 2, 2026 at 13:00 WIB within the TCWC Jakarta monitoring area. The system is currently located over the Pacific Ocean north of Papua. Tropical cyclone seeds 94W has a high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone and is forecast to move westward within the next 24 hours,” BMKG said.
BMKG warned that this system could still trigger moderate to heavy rain and strong winds in Southwest Papua, West Papua and North Maluku.
Waves of 1.25 to 2.5 metres are also possible in the Pacific Ocean north of Maluku and Papua, waters north of Halmahera, and around the Sangihe and Talaud Islands.
BMKG urged coastal communities, fishermen and shipping operators to remain alert to the risk of extreme weather and hazardous sea conditions.
