JAKARTA — The signing ceremony, held on Thursday, was a key event during the 2025 Week of Indonesia-Netherlands Education and Research (WINNER), aimed at strengthening ties between educational institutions of the two nations.
The agreement is designed to foster closer collaboration in higher education, research, and innovation, while also boosting participation for students, researchers, and institutions from both Indonesia and the Netherlands.
Key areas of cooperation include access to Dutch "Living Labs," the organization of joint events, and capacity building through academic exchanges and workshops.
The LoI was signed by UIN Jakarta Rector, Professor Asep Saepudin Jahar, and the Chair of NL Knowledge House, Ruard Ganzevoort.
Rector Asep Jahar described the partnership as a strategic step in supporting the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on pressing global challenges such as food security, climate change, and sustainable water management.
He expressed optimism about the partnership's potential, stating, "UIN Jakarta will gain direct involvement in Living Labs projects initiated by Dutch institutions and expand our academic and research networks with international partners."
Professor Stella Christie, Indonesia's Vice Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, who attended the event, underscored the importance for Indonesia to continue strengthening international collaboration in research and education.
"This LoI is expected to provide more opportunities for students and researchers to develop their potential within an environment that supports innovation and science," she said.
The signing was also attended by H.E. David van Weel, the Netherlands' Minister of Foreign Affairs, who emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral relations through the education and research sectors. He noted that such collaborations form a crucial foundation for addressing increasingly complex global challenges.
As part of the agreement, UIN Jakarta will become a formal member of the NL Knowledge House, enabling its participation in various programs, including institutional matchmaking, thematic seminars, and joint research projects.
The two parties have committed to developing collaborative projects in fields such as agriculture, sustainability, and technological innovation. The event marks a significant milestone in Indonesia-Netherlands scientific cooperation, paving the way for future capacity building and knowledge exchange.
