Bobby and Melati cruise into Indonesia Masters semi-finals

Indonesia's Bobby/Melati beat Japan's Aizawa/Osawa in straight games to reach the Indonesia Masters 2025 semi-finals in Medan.

Indonesia’s mixed doubles pair, Bobby Setiabudi and Melati Daeva Oktavianti, delivered a dominant performance against Japan’s Tori Aizawa and Hina Osawa, securing their victory in two straight games, 21-19, 21-7, in the quarter-finals at the GOR Pancing arena in Medan on Friday, 24 October 2025.

MEDAN — The victory ensures the third seeds, known affectionately as Bobby/Melati, a place in the semi-finals of the Wondr by BNI Indonesia Masters 2025.

Throughout the match, Bobby/Melati demonstrated complete control, dispatching their Japanese opponents in short order.

After the win, Melati Daeva Oktavianti expressed gratitude for emerging from the match injury-free. She revealed that the key to their success was their ability to find their focus immediately from the outset.

"We were switched on from the beginning and got right into our rhythm. Our opponents also seemed uncomfortable, so we just stuck to the game plan," said Melati.

The 23-year-old athlete admitted they faced difficulties in the first game, where several errors nearly cost them the opener.

"We were nearly caught in the first game because of a few poor shots and unforced errors, but thankfully, we still managed to win it," she explained.

Despite the straightforward victory, Melati insisted she was not getting ahead of herself by thinking about the title. She prefers to focus on one match at a time.

"The target is, of course, to win the title, but we are taking it one match at a time. Our style of play today was very attacking," she added.

Meanwhile, her partner, Bobby Setiabudi, revealed that thorough preparation was a key factor in their win, noting they had studied their opponents' style through video analysis.

"We watched videos of their matches beforehand, so we already knew how to approach the game against them," said Bobby.

He added that they also focused on maintaining their concentration and confidence throughout the match, which made their performance more solid.

"We made an effort to control the tempo on court, stay sharp from the start, and remain confident," he said.

The win positions Bobby/Melati as the host nation's biggest hope for the mixed doubles title. Both athletes, who train with PB Djarum (a prominent Indonesian badminton club), are now just one step away from the final. The semi-final will be the next challenge for the pair.
